ST QT - The Hornets got off to a sluggish start against the Washington Wizards as shot nearly 70 percent from the field. Miles Bridges started in place of Jeremy Lamb as the Hornets look to shake things up. Bradley Beal scored 14 points in this quarter, Jeff Green scored nine points. The Wizards led by as many as 12 points in the quarter.
nd QT - The Hornets buckled down defensively in this quarter holding Washington to 20 points. Nic Batum scored 12 points in this quarter and Kemba Walker, who started the quarter on the bench scored 11. The Hornets nailed three 3-pt shots as well. Charlotte is in a virtual must-win tonight with Brooklyn, Golden State, and Houston (in that order) on the horizon.
rd QT - The Wizards made a small run at the end of the quarter but Charlotte's defense was the glue that enabled them to build on their six point halftime lead. Wizards' All-Star Bradley Beal is having a nice game but the Hornets are limited other opportunities from Jeff Green, Trevor Ariza, and Thomas Bryant. Beal looks like he's headed for 50 points tonight.
th QT - Kemba Walker just nailed a big 3-point basket with 7:22 left to go and the Hornets lead Washington 108-95. The triple came just 30 seconds after Cody Zeller got the crowd hyper with a monster slam dunk. Can the Hornets hold on?
th QT cont...The answer, a resounding YES. Hornets forward Marvin Williams nailed a big three-pointer and Miles Bridges threw down a huge dunk and Charlotte held on down the stretch. Washington's all-world player, Bradley Beal ended up with 44 points. Coach Scott Brooks took him out of the lineup following that Bridges' dunk and the subsequent timeout. Charlotte really needed this win. Detroit is beating Atlanta and Brooklyn will be here tomorrow as the playoff race in the Eastern Conference grows more intense. FINAL SCORE 123-110
