Carolina Panthers welcome new faces, Mayfield sets record straight

One day after announcing their 53-man roster, the Carolina Panthers got right to work naming the official practice squad members. The team also welcomed two new players that they expect to make an immediate impact.

The team welcomed new kicker Eddy Piñeiro to replace injured kicker Zane Gonzalez. The team agreed to a one-year deal with Piñeiro who spent last season with the Jets but was cut after this year's training camp.

Laviska Shenault Jr. was also in practice on Wednesday after a less than speedy car trip to get to the Queen city due to charging issues with his electric car.

However, when Shenault took the field he brought both shock and amazement. Many were impressed by his unexpected size - others by his ability to work the field. One of the people most impressed by his new teammate's stature was starting quarterback Baker Mayfield.

"Honestly, I was kind of shocked,"

The normally spirited Mayfield, however, was all business when he addressed the media about what he deemed eroneous statements made about his response to questions about the upcoming matchup with his former team. "Everybody knows that...I want to win in everything I do. That'll never change. Now, that is not how I phrased it. That's not even what I said," Mayfield responded.
