Charlotte FC players, friends and family bid a tearful goodbye to departed teammate Anton Walkes

Charlotte FC players, along with family and friends of former teammate Anton Walkes gathered to share memories and say farewell. The ceremony held at Bank of America stadium in Charlotte, NC was open to the public. Attendees received a free pin commemorating the life of the former Charlotte FC defender.

Also on hand were former teammates from Atlanta United FC where Walkes spent three seasons, including their inaugural year.

There were messages played on the video board from across the globe. The outpouring of support and respect for Walkes was felt in every tribute. Even North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper chimed in via video to share his sentiments.

But the most riveting speeches cam from former teammate Andre Shinyashiki who was moved to tears throughout much of his address.

Walkes' best friend Mohammed Khalifi drove home the message that he would spend his life continuing the mission of caring for Walkes' daughter and close family.
