Panthers cap preseason with 21-0 win over Bills
The Carolina Panthers played their final preseason game at home with the Buffalo Bills. New starting quarterback Baker Mayfield took most of the snaps in the first half and looked good operating out of the shotgun without Christian McCaffrey and Robbie Anderson.
On the Panthers second possession starting at their own 47 Mayfield operating under good pass protection hit tight end Stephen Sullivan for 21 yards . Then capped a 12 play 53 yard drive from 2 yards out to D'Onta Foreman.
Carolina Defense stepped up later on the Bills 4th possession when Yetur Gross-Mayos tipped Case Keenum's pass and Jeremy Chinn came down with the interception on the Buffalo 27 yard line.
Mayfield quickly capitalizing when he connected 19 yards with steadily improving Shi Smith 3 plays later and the Panthers went up 14-0.
Former starting quarterback Sam Darnold came on after the two minute warning and was effective running the hurry up offense for new Offensive Coordinator Ben McAdoo. Darnold scored a 1 yard touchdown later in the 3rd quarter on a 10 play 45 yard drive. The Panthers pouring on a 21-0 shut out over Buffalo.
Darnold left the game in the 3rd quarter with an ankle injury. Mayfield finished with 9 of 15 completions for 89 yards and 2 touchdowns Carolina goes 2-1 in the preseason I am in the interview room.
