Panthers injury report stacked with big names as big road game approaches
On Wednesday, the Carolina Panthers continued to prep for their Week-17 road matchup in Jacksonville.
And in the week after his best performance of the season, passing for 312 yards, 2 touchdowns and leading five scoring drives, Panthers quarterback Bryce Young heads into the matchup against the Jaguars looking for his third consecutive week of success on the stat sheet. Interim head coach Chris Tabor is excited about what he's seeing out of Young's most recent performances. "As everybody's playing better, and we talked about it from the Atlanta game, the last drive and we wanted to carry it over into this game ...know that he didn't start as fast as we wanted to but he found his rhythm along with the other guys. When you're doing those things, obviously confidence grows. What risks you're willing to take also increases,"
Tabor narrowly missed his second career win. But a questionable late game call allowed the Packers to continue their final scoring drive. It's experiences like that that help Tabor move forward. "You know when you have a scar it was a bad accident. It heals up and the pain goes away but when you still see it you remember what took place and you need to try to learn from it. And I think that's what we're gonna try to do again this week," Tabor said.
In other team news, the Panthers organization announced cornerback Donte Jackson has been named the team's Ed Block Courage Award winner after his climb back into his starting role after rehabbing from his 2022 season ending Achilles injury.
The Wednesday injury report saw seven players who did not participate including, most notably, Ickey Ikwonu, Jaycee Horn and Frankie Luvu along with receiver Adam Thielen. But most of those listed as late season issues that did not raise huge concerns with Chris Tabor according to comments from the Wednesday press conference. Running back Chuba Hubbard and cornerback Donte Jackson were both limited. And linebacker Amare Barno has been placed on injured reserve effectively ending his season.
