Panthers linebacker Marquis Haynes Sr returns to Charlotte after being carted off the field with concussion
During the Carolina Panthers' recent matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Panthers' outside linebacker Marquis Haynes Sr. went down in the third quarter after a heavy collision while making a tackle. After the hit, Haynes attempted to stand but quickly fell to his knees before eventually lying down on the field. Panthers' medical training staff attended to Haynes for an extended period of time before making the decision to cart him from the field.
Haynes was transported to a Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville where he remained overnight for evaluation for a concussion and did not travel back with the team after the game. He arrived in Charlotte on Monday according to a report released by the team.
Teammate, linebacker Brian Burns gave his description of the events during a post game interview. "It was a scary moment. Any time one of your brothers goes down, it's always a scary moment. You always send a prayer in the air to try to keep them covered," Burns said.
Haynes is currently in concussion protocol. There has been no information released about whether he will be available for the team's final regular season game when the Panthers host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Bank of America stadium.
The Jacksonville, Florida native did not see action in the regular season until returning from injured reserve during the team's matchup against the Chicago Bears on Nov. 9. Haynes had experienced back issues that prevented him from playing at the start of the regular season and has been limited to 142 defensive snaps during the seven games in which he was active.
