Panthers lose Shaq Thompson for the season amid widening losing streak
By Kevin Tolbert
One day after the Carolina Panthers suffered their 2nd loss in as many games as well as a key loss in their defensive lineup, Frank Reich weighed in on linebacker Shaq Thompson's season ending injury. "I am unfortunately able to confirm that it is a fractured Fibula," Reich said.
"He will likely miss the remainder of the season."
The Panthers defense performed well for the second week in a row with 4 sacks, a Vonn Bell interception, 6 tackles for loss and 7 passes defended despite losing Thompson, but the offense continued to look for answers.
The Panthers struggled on the ground. Starting running back Miles Sanders finished with 14 carries for just 43 yards but quarterback Bryce Young finished the game 22 of 33 for 153 yards and a touchdown but also as the team's second leading rusher ahead of Chuba Hubbard who rushed for 60 yards on 9 carries just one week ago. The Panthers also failed to mount a deep air attack against the stingy Saints defense but Frank Reich nor Bryce Young are in panic mode just yet.
The Panthers head out west this week to Seattle for their Week-3 matchup against the Seahawks who are winless at home.
